Activity Guide VI: Create Virtual Cloud Network (VCN) & Subnet
As a Cloud Apps DBA, you should have networking knowledge as well as you need to set up a virtual cloud network (VCN) for your cloud resources. You should know how to create VCN and Subnets inside the VCN.
Virtual Cloud Network (VCN) is a virtual network in which you can create subnets, route tables, security lists and gateways for your compute instances the same way you do in your traditional network.
Read our blog to know more about Virtual Cloud Network (VCN)
Activity Guide VII: Create Firewall (Security List)
Security List is a common set of firewall rules associated with a subnet and applied to all compute instances in that subnet. Network Security Groups are another method for implementing security rules.
Read our blog to know more about Network Security Groups (NSGs) Vs. Security List (SL): When to use What?
Activity Guide VIII: Create Internet Gateway (IGW) for Internet Connectivity
An Internet Gateway (IGW) provides a path for network traffic between the internet and OCI VCN. Compute Instance in Public Subnet by default won’t be able to connect to the internet without IG.
Activity Guide IX: Create Route Tables, Add Route Rules & Assign Route Tables To Subnet
VCN uses virtual Route Tables to send traffic out of the VCN (for example, to the internet, to your on-premises network, or to a peered VCN). These route tables have route rules that provide mapping for traffic from subnet via gateways to other subnets or destinations outside VCN.

Activity Guide X: Generate SSH Keys
In this Activity Guide, we will create an SSH key pair that you will use to Connect to Compute Instances like Windows & Linux machine from Putty or terminal.
Check out our blog to know How to Generate SSH Key Pair for Oracle Cloud (Windows/Linux)
Activity Guide XI: Create & Connect To EBS Cloud Manager VM
EBS Cloud Manager is a utility to centrally Manage, Provision, and Migrate (Lift & Shift) Oracle EBS from On-premise to OCI or back. You must set up the Oracle EBS Cloud Manager Tool, Update it to the latest Code level.
In this Activity Guide, we will create an EBS Cloud Manager VM using an image from Marketplace and we will connect to it using Putty.

- It can provision a new EBS instance on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- To backup an EBS instance on the cloud.
- To delete an EBS instance.
- To migrate EBS instance from OCI to OCI or from On-premise to OCI.
- To integrate Oracle EBS with Oracle third-party software like Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Identity, and Access Management Suite, etc.
- Cloning from OCI to OCI as well as Cloning from On-premise to Cloud.
- You also use this Oracle EBS Cloud Manager utility to manage the Oracle EBS environment.

Activity Guide XIII: Provision EBS Environment Using One-click Provisioning
EBS Environment can be deployed using EBS Cloud Manager in two ways: One-click Provisioning and Advanced Provisioning. One-click Provisioning comes with pre-populated deployment options and creates an environment with a Single VM for both Application and Database.
In this Activity Guide, we cover using the One-Click Provisioning feature of Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager to provision an Oracle E-Business Suite environment.
Activity Guide XIV: Provision EBS Environment Using Advanced Provisioning
Advanced Provisioning can be customized with user-selected deployment options. This has the ability to create an environment from a backup of other environments and also provides application file system choices and Database choices such as– Compute, VM, Exadata.
In this Activity Guide, we cover provisioning an Oracle E-Business Suite Environment using the Advanced Provisioning feature of Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager.
Activity Guide XV: Connect To EBS Instance & Access WebLogic Admin URL
In this Activity Guide, we will connect to EBS Instance using EBS Application URL and will also access Weblogic Console for Maintenance Activities.
Activity Guide XVI: EBS Cloud Manager: Start/Stop
Oracle frequently updates the EBS Cloud Manager versions, so this activity guide covers how to check the latest EBS Cloud Manager Version, how to upgrade it to the latest version
In this Activity guide, we will perform:
- Check EBS Cloud Manager Version and update if required
- Start/Stop Cloud Manager VM
Once you know Tasks like Creating EBS R12 on Cloud, Cloud Manager Tool and Security then focus on Advanced tasks to set yourself apart from other Cloud Apps DBAs

Activity Guide XVIII: Backup & Restore EBS Cloud Manager: Create Custom Images
You will need to backup your EBS Cloud Manager at times such as right before updating to a latest version or before doing any major change.
In this Activity Guide, we cover creating a custom image of EBS Cloud Manager and this will be the backup of your EBS Cloud Manager VM that we will use to restore the same EBS cloud manager VM or create a new EBS Cloud Manager VM.
Activity Guide XIX: Cloning EBS (R12) Instance Using EBS Cloud Manager on OCI
Then move to Cloning EBS (R12) on OCI. Cloning of Oracle application is one of the most common activities for DBA and when it comes to Cloud quicker and faster options are expected.
So you should know various options and techniques for cloning existing Oracle applications on OCI in clear and easy steps. With the Cloud Manager tool, it can be done quickly and conveniently. As of not only Compute clone can be done which will be blocked volume cloning or fast cloning methodology.
In this Activity Guide, we cover cloning an EBS instance via Cloud Manager and later performing Post Cloning Tasks.
Activity Guide XX: Connecting To An On-premise Server For Migration
In this Activity Guide, You will install Pritunl OpenVPN (This is different from our K21academy OpenVPN) to connect to our On-premise server. After connecting to Pritunl OpenVPN, you will be able to connect to our On-premise server that is our source, and then you can proceed with Lift and shift lab to migrate to the cloud.
Activity Guide XXI: Migrate (Lift & Shift) EBS R12 From On-premise To Oracle Cloud
Migration (Lift & Shift) is the process of migrating an On-Premise Oracle EBS R12 environment to the Cloud. This, in my view, is the most important Activity Guide i.e EBS Lift & Shift Migration that will help you earn a lot higher and grow quickly.
We can move the on-premises instance to Cloud using the Cloud manager. The cloud manager is capable of creating an instance from the object storage backup. It uses a new backup utility which is known as EBS Cloud Backup Utility, as a standalone tool for taking EBS backup to object storage and needs to be run on the source environment.
