Database Deployment Choices
There are two types of database deployment choices:
1. On-premises platform choices: On this platform, database installed on commodity Hardware or Database appliance on customer site.
2. Cloud Choices: On this platform, we can deploy Database on Oracle cloud infrastructure(OCI), Database Cloud Services(DBCS) like Virtual Machine(VM), Bare Metal(BM), Exadata Cloud Services(ExaCS), Exadata Cloud@Customer(ExaCC), MySQL Database, NoSQL Database, and External Database.
You can also deploy Oracle Autonomous Database with two options: Autonomous Data Warehouse(ADW) & Autonomous Transaction Processing(ATP).
Q1: Why Cloud is better than On-premises?
Database Cloud Services:
Oracle Cloud Database Services that allows organizations to create and manage full-featured Oracle Database instances in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI),
These services run on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure(OCI) to provide you the ability to create full and running deployments of Oracle database releases very fast. Users have full access to the features and operations available with Oracle Database.
Q2: Is the Autonomous database related to the normal Oracle 18c/19c database or Exadata Cloud Service?
Ans: Yes, it is related. Autonomous databases always run on Exadata. Initially, the version was 18c, but now they are running on 19c or above.
Q3: Is there any pre-requisite for a 1Z0-1093 specialist?
Ans: No, there is no pre-requisite for a 1Z0-1093 specialist.
Q4: What is the use case of an external database in OCI?
Ans: You can manage and monitor Oracle Databases located outside of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) using OCI’s External Database service. External Database allows you to use cloud-based tools such as Database Management with your external databases. External Database can be used with both single-instance Oracle Databases and Oracle RAC instances.
Q5: What are the features of Autonomous Databases?
Ans: Features of Autonomous Database:
- Automated index management.
- Automatic real-time statistics gathering.
- Optimized high-frequency single-row inserts for applications.
- Preconfigured resource profiles for different types of users to achieve optimized query performance and concurrent workloads.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure:
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is a deep and broad platform of public cloud services that enable customers to build and run a wide range of applications in a scalable, secure, highly available, and high-performance environment.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure(OCI) provides multiple services like
- Compute(Virtual Machine, Container, Kubernetes, Functions)
- Storage(Object Storage, Block Storage, File Storage)
- Networking(VCN, Subnets, Gateway VPN, Load Balancer, Firewall)
- Identity Access Management(Users, Groups, Policy, Compartment, Authentication(ATN), Authorization, Multi-factor Authentication(MFA)
- Database (User- managed, Autonomous ,Cloud @Customer, MySQL Database, NoSQL Database) etc.
Q6:
Virtual Machine:
A virtual machine (VM) is a virtual environment that functions as a virtual computer system with its own CPU, memory, network interface, and storage, created on a physical hardware system (located off- or on-premises).
Software called a hypervisor separates the machine’s resources from the hardware and provisions them appropriately to be used by the VM.
Bare metal
A bare-metal system is a computer that does not include any software. This means the user must install an operating system for the hardware to be functional.
The term “bare metal” is commonly used to refer to custom-built PCs and barebones systems. These types of computers are ideal for PC enthusiasts, who may prefer to install their own software rather than paying extra for pre-loaded programs. A bare-metal system allows advanced users to choose a non-mainstream OS, such as a specific Linux distribution.
Q7: What is the difference between Virtual Machine & Bare Metal?
Exadata Database
Exadata is a database machine designed by Oracle that provides users with optimized functionality pertaining to enterprise-class databases and their associated workloads. Exadata is a composite database server machine that uses Oracle database software and the hardware server equipment developed by Sun Microsystems.
Exadata is a database appliance that has the capability to provide support to a combination of database systems such as OLTP and OLAP, the transactional and analytical database systems.
Exadata on Cloud deploy in the modules :
- Exadata Cloud Service(ExaCS): Where you can run Exadata on a Cloud.
- Exadata Cloud@Customer(ExaCC): Where you run Exadata in Customer premises in the Subscription model.
Q8: What is the difference between External DB and Exadata DB?
Ans: An external database is composed of an external collection of chained terms. These chains give you direct access to data that is not a part of your Prolog program. The external database can be stored in three locations: in a file, in memory, or EMS-type expanded memory under DOS.
Exadata is a database machine designed by Oracle that provides users with optimized functionality pertaining to enterprise-class databases and their associated workloads.
MySQL Database
MySQL Database Service enables organizations to rapidly and securely deploy modern, cloud-native applications using the world’s most popular open-source database.
The only fully managed public cloud service that’s 100% built, managed and supported by the same engineering team that develops MySQL, so you get the latest updates, security fixes, and features. It is performant, reliable, and easy to use.
Oracle NoSQL Database
Oracle NoSQL Database Cloud Service provides on-demand throughput and storage-based provisioning that supports document, columnar, and key-value data models, all with flexible transaction guarantees.
- High availability, data model flexibility, elastic scalability
Autonomous Database:
An Autonomous Database is a cloud database that uses machine learning to automate database tuning, security, and other routine management tasks traditionally performed by DBAs.
- It is preconfigured.
- It is a fully managed environment (some work by DBA like Data loading, Data security).
- It is suitable for two types of workload
- Transaction Processing
- Data Warehousing
- It maintains Automated tasks like Backup, Patching, Upgrades, tuning.
Autonomous Transaction Processing(ATP):
Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing delivers a self-driving, self-securing, self-repairing database service that can instantly scale to meet the demands of various applications: mission-critical transaction processing, mixed transactions and analytics, IoT, JSON documents, and so on.
Autonomous Data Warehousing(ADW):
Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse provides an easy-to-use, fully autonomous database that scales elastically, delivers fast query performance, and requires no database administration.
Oracle External Database Cloud Service
Manage and monitor Oracle Databases located outside of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) using OCI’s External Database service.
External Database can be used with both single-instance Oracle Databases and Oracle RAC instances.
External databases can utilize services including Database Management and Operations Insights for analysis and management of Oracle Databases located outside of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
Q9: Exadata will be on Bare metal or Virtual machine?
Ans: Exadata would be Virtualized Exadata, but this virtualized Box is dedicated to single-tenant also in Exadata. You don’t need to manage PDU, Inter-connect traffic, KVM switches.
Q10: What do you mean by “serverless”?
Ans: In serverless, you don’t have access to Exadata Machine – you get access to Database from Console – we’ll cover it a little more in Administration.
Q11: Is RAC not supported on bare metal?
Ans: No, RAC is not supported on Bare Metal(BM). If you want to RAC, you either go for Virtual Machine(VM)DB System, or you can deploy Exadata Cloud Service(ExaCS) and Exadata Cloud @ Customer(ExaCC).
Q12: What is the difference between compute instance and database instance in OCI?
Ans: Compute instance is OS, and database instance is Database running on top of that OS.
Q13: How is the Autonomous database(ADB) different from Database Cloud Services(DBCS/DB System)?
Ans: With Autonomous Database(ADB), Oracle controls the database version, applies system/database patches automatically. Oracle manages, secures, and auto-tunes ADB based on the workload and leverages the automatic database features to provide an autonomous experience. Applications connect to ADB via SQL*Net, JDBC, etc., there is no OS access.
Database Cloud Services(DBCS) offers more control. You choose the version of the database and the patch set to deploy. Access to the underlying OS console where the database resides is available so that you can execute database commands and utilities just like an on-premises database.
Q14: For managing DomU in ExaCC, Would customer DBAs have access to OCI Console (like we have for ADBs)? or OCI Console is for Only the Oracle team to manage Dom0?
Ans: Customers will manage DomU from a console or connect to the server using putty, Dom0 is managed by Oracle Remotely using a gateway.
Q15: Is that Autonomous DB also available in Cloud@customer as like ExaCC?
Ans: Yes, Autonomous DB is available in Cloud@customer as like ExaCC.
Q16: What is the difference between cell and grid disks?
A: Cell disk is a high level of abstraction for the data storage area on a physical disk. Cell disk is based on LUN. One physical disk corresponds to a single cell disk. Then a Grid disk comprises many cell disks. And a Grid disk corresponds to one ASM disk.
Q17: What is cloud automation?
A: Cloud automation refers to implementing tools and processes to reduce the manual intervention associated with provisioning, configuring, and managing public, private, and hybrid cloud environments.
Q18: What is a purpose-built database?
A: Purpose-built databases enable you to create scalable, high-performing, and functional backend infrastructures to power your applications, addressing each use case with the most appropriate component. By following this approach, you can build a similar architecture with your own resources.
Q19. What is the difference between a control plan and a data plan?
A: Control plane refers to all functions and processes that determine which path to send the packet or frame. Data plane refers to all the functions and processes that forward packets/frames from one interface to another based on control plane logic.
